Brow Lift NYC

Brow Lift New York City with Dr. Cangello

Eyebrows are an expressive part of your face, and they play a major role in conveying your mood to others. Sometimes, however, they can droop excessively, so you may look unintentionally tired, sad, or angry. A brow lift can correct such problems and, in the process, remove furrows, creases, and wrinkles from your face, thus giving your face a brighter and more youthful appearance.

Dr. David L. Cangello is a leading NYC plastic surgeon who is experienced in a range of plastic and reconstructive surgery procedures, including brow lift procedures, and is dedicated to achieving beautiful and natural-looking results.

What Is a Brow Lift?

A brow lift is a cosmetic procedure performed to elevate your eyebrows.1 Temporary brow lifts can be achieved using Botox®, or, for a much longer-term solution, we can perform a surgical brow lift.

Brow lifts are performed in a surgical facility such as a hospital or in an ambulatory surgery center on an outpatient basis. The procedure typically lasts between one and two hours. Local and/or general anesthesia are used for this type of facial plastic surgery.

A pre-op plan will be carefully created for you and may include changes in diet and other habits that impact your health. You will be asked to fast the night prior to surgery and may be asked not to take certain medications, refrain from common activities, or stop certain habits.

The results from your brow lift surgery can last between five and seven years and longer. We will create a post-op plan specifically for you so you can enjoy the results of your surgery without complications. This plan may require a change of lifestyle—reducing sun exposure and eliminating smoking, for instance.

The Endoscopic Brow Lift Procedure

An endoscopic brow lift, also known as an endoscopic forehead lift, is used to lift and rejuvenate the eyebrows and forehead. The procedure involves making five small incisions in the scalp, through which an endoscope (a thin, tube-like instrument with a light and camera) is inserted. The endoscope allows Dr. Cangello to see inside the body and perform the procedure using specialized instruments. Dr. Cangello can then lift and reposition the tissues of the forehead and eyebrows to create a more youthful, rejuvenated appearance. The procedure is typically performed under general anesthesia, and the recovery time is generally shorter than with other types of brow lift surgery. Since the incisions for this procedure are very small and made behind your hairline, no scarring will be visible.

An endoscopic brow lift is a surgical procedure that restores a more youthful look to your eyes and forehead. Patients who choose this type of brow lift want to smooth the vertical wrinkles on their forehead. They also want to reduce the creasing (“frown lines”) between their eyes and the hooding of their upper eyelids. After facial rejuvenation with a brow lift, patients look younger and more rested.

The Brow Lift Consultation: Creating Your Plastic Surgery Plan

Your brow lift journey begins with a consultation with Dr. David Cangello in our New York City office. Dr. Cangello will discuss your medical history and the results that you want from your brow lift. For your surgery to proceed safely, you need to be honest about your allergies, medications, personal habits, and previous surgical procedures.

Dr. Cangello will conduct a physical examination. He will be looking at your bone structure, skin quality (in terms of elasticity and presence of aging lines/wrinkles), your hairline, the position of your eyebrows, and whether or not you have hooding of the upper eyelid skin as a result of low eyebrow position. These factors will enable Dr. Cangello to design a surgical plan that will create a more youthful and refreshed contour for your brows and forehead.

After the examination, Dr. Cangello will let you know if a brow lift will create the youthful look that you desire. In some cases, he may also recommend additional procedures such as upper and/or lower blepharoplasty (eyelid lift), Botox® injections, or a facelift.

Preparing For a Brow Lift

Dr. Cangello is committed to achieving the best results possible. During your initial consultation, he will create a preoperative plan for you to follow. This plan is designed for your unique needs, to make sure that you have the best outcome possible. Your pre-op plan may include changes in diet and other habits that impact your health. You will be advised to avoid ANY nicotine-containing products for at least two to four weeks before and after surgery. Preoperative medical clearance by your physician (or Dr. Cangello can provide a referral) will need to be obtained prior to surgery to ensure that you are medically fit to undergo the procedure.

Dr. Cangello will also give you instructions for the days before your surgery. These include stopping certain medications and supplements. You will also be told not to eat beginning at midnight on the day of your surgery.

Finally, Dr. Cangello will explain your post-operative plan. He will give you prescriptions to fill prior to surgery and ask you to find someone to drive you home following surgery.

Brow Lift Recovery

You will wake up with a surgical dressing over your incisions and possibly a small drainage tube.2 Your brows and forehead may feel tight, bruised, or swollen. Although most patients do not experience much pain after a brow lift, Dr. Cangello will prescribe pain medication to keep you comfortable. You will be instructed to avoid strenuous activities and to keep your head elevated when you are lying down.

Surgical dressings and drainage tubes (if they are used) are removed within one or two days. Your sutures will be removed within five to ten days. You should be able to return to work within ten days. You should be able to return to normal activity after two weeks. Although the results of your brow lift should be obvious immediately after surgery, it may take a few months for the swelling to disappear and for scars to fade.

FAQs About Brow Lift Surgery

Am I a Good Candidate for a Brow Lift?

You are a good candidate for a brow lift if you are bothered by wrinkle lines across your forehead, frown lines between your eyes, the hooding of your upper eyelids, or the low position of your eyebrows. Many patients feel that their brow and forehead make them look older, tired, or angry. Brow lift candidates must be non-smokers who are in good health, live in New York City (or be willing to travel), and be motivated to follow Dr. Cangello’s preoperative and post-operative instructions.3

Good candidates must also have realistic expectations for the surgery. While a brow lift will provide a more youthful look to your eyes and forehead, it will not change the appearance of the lower part of your face. Dr. Cangello will explain the results that you can expect from your brow lift and may suggest additional procedures (such as a facelift or neck lift) to achieve your desired results.

Where Will the Surgery Be Performed?

Your brow lift surgery will be performed at Dr. Cangello’s New York City office. He has a fully accredited (AAASF) state-of-the-art operating room on-site. You are encouraged to ask for a tour of the operating facility when you come in for your consultation. Alternatively, if you have a preference for having your surgery in a hospital setting, Dr. Cangello can perform the surgery at Manhattan Eye Ear and Throat Hospital (MEETH).

What Type of Anesthesia Is Used For Brow Lift Surgery?

Brow lift surgery generally takes one to two hours. It may be performed using general anesthesia or using local anesthetic with IV sedation. In either case, you will not feel any pain or remember the surgery.

Can I Combine Other Cosmetic Procedures With An Eyebrow Lift?

Yes, if you’re looking to treat baggy eyelids or crow’s feet in addition to sagging brows, Dr. Cangello often combines upper and lower eyelid lift surgery with a brow lift as well as Botox® to treat crow’s feet. Filler can also be used on the upper and mid-face to fill in temporal hollows and provide more of a youthful and lifted look.

What Is The Cost Of A Brow Lift?

The cost of a brow lift can vary depending on several factors including the technique used and the type of anesthesia used, as well as whether any other procedures are performed at the same time as brow lift surgery. The best way to find out the exact pricing for your cosmetic goals is to schedule a consultation.

What are other types of brow lift techniques?

This is the least invasive brow lift technique. As such it requires minimal downtime and can be done under local anesthesia alone. With this procedure, the skin of the forehead is excised directly above the eyebrow on each side. When the skin is closed the eyebrow is pulled upward. The scar is hidden along the entire length of the upper edge of the eyebrow.

An internal browpexy, also known as a transpalpebral browpexy, involves making an incision within the eyelid, through which Dr. Cangello can lift and reposition the tissues of the forehead and eyebrows to create a more youthful, rejuvenated appearance. The procedure is typically performed under local anesthesia, and the recovery time is generally shorter than with other types of brow lift surgery. The procedure is called a transpalpebral browpexy because the incision is made within the eyelid, or palpebral conjunctiva, allowing Dr. Cangello to lift and reposition the brow without making any visible incisions on the skin. Because this type of brow lift is done through the upper eyelid, it is ideal to be performed concomitantly with or without upper eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty). This procedure is best suited for patients who need elevation of the lateral half of the eyebrow and who are not looking to surgically improve wrinkles of the forehead or glabella (between the eyebrows).

This procedure is ideal if you want to raise your hairline and increase the height of your forehead. An incision is made behind your hairline across the top of the scalp from ear to ear. The skin of your forehead is then lifted and overlapping skin is removed, heightening your hairline. We can also weaken muscles to reduce contractions that cause wrinkles.

This procedure requires an incision behind or at the hairline and is best suited for patients needing elevation of the entire brow. This type of brow lift can also reduce fine lines of the forehead and glabella (frown lines between the eyebrows). When the incision is made at the hairline the height of an overly elongated forehead can also be reduced. Scarring from the incision for a coronal brow lift is hidden within the hair unless it is made at the hairline in order to reduce forehead height. In this case the scar camouflages well at the junction of the forehead skin and hairline. Dr. Cangello will do his best to ensure that scars are hidden within your hairline or the natural contours of your face. Dr. Cangello also pays meticulous attention to the detail of all skin closures which also contributes to minimizing the appearance of scars.

A hairline brow lift, also known as a trichophytic brow lift, is a type of cosmetic surgery that is used to lift and rejuvenate the eyebrows and forehead. The procedure involves making an incision along the hairline, which allows Dr. Cangello to lift and reposition the tissues of the forehead and eyebrows and remove excess skin to create a more youthful, rejuvenated appearance. This type of brow lift is ideal for someone with an excessively high forehead who wants to reduce the amount of visible forehead skin. It is usually performed under general anesthesia and the recovery time is generally shorter than with other types of brow lift surgery. The procedure is called a trichophytic brow lift because the incision is made in such a way that it promotes the growth of new hair through the scar, helping to camouflage it. Unlike a coronal brow lift, this procedure is ideal if you wish to lower a high or receding hairline. In this procedure, we remove skin below your hairline, then your forehead skin is pulled down and sutured to the original incision line. For this procedure, an incision is made where your hairline begins, so scarring may be visible. However, your hair can easily be styled to cover the scar.
