Botox New York City with Dr. Cangello

Botox Cosmetic (technically known as botulinum toxin type A) is an FDA-approved injection medication made by Allergan that is used to smooth skin creases caused by facial movements, such as smiling or frowning.1 This treatment works by blocking the muscular nerve signals, which temporarily weakens the muscles so they can’t contract to form wrinkles in the overlying skin. The result is a more youthful, refreshed look.

Am I a Good Candidate for Botox?

If you’re bothered by fine lines, dynamic wrinkles, or signs of aging like glabella creases or forehead lines, Botox injections may be your ideal solution. Candidates should be in good health, non-pregnant, and living in or willing to travel to New York City. First-time patients often find Botox treatment to be an easy entry into cosmetic procedures with minimal downtime and highly effective treatment outcomes.

Schedule a Consultation

Your Facial Rejuvenation Consultation

You will meet with Dr. David Cangello in our New York City office on the Upper East Side. Dr. Cangello will discuss your treatment options and the results you want to achieve, review potential side effects, and take a full medical history. During the consultation, you must be honest about your allergies, medications, personal habits, and any previous surgical procedures.

Dr. Cangello will conduct a physical examination of your face to determine if Botox injections will create the look you desire. Depending on your anatomy and skin elasticity, Dr. Cangello may suggest ancillary procedures, such as dermal fillers like Restylane® or Juvéderm®, chemical peels, laser resurfacing, fat grafting, or surgery, as alternatives or adjuncts to Botox.

Preparing for Botox

Board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Cangello is highly skilled in using Botox to create a safe, natural, and aesthetically pleasing outcome. For the best Botox results, patients should:

  • Avoid Aspirin and NSAIDs like Advil and Aleve, or any medicine containing Ibuprofen, for two weeks to reduce bruising risks.
  • Disclose any medications or supplements affecting blood clotting.
  • Schedule your procedure 1–2 weeks before any major social events.

Botox Injection Techniques

Botox treatments are quick, safe, and performed in our New York City office by Dr. Cangello, who is highly experienced in neurotoxin injections and the intricacies of facial anatomy. Injections are administered using very fine needles applied at specific points of your facial muscles. Most patients experience a slight pinching sensation during the injection and do not feel much pain. Dr. Cangello uses ultra-fine needles to strategically inject Botox into targeted treatment areas such as:
  • Forehead lines
  • Glabella (frown lines)
  • Crow’s feet
  • Masseter for jaw slimming
  • Bunny lines on the nose
Topical numbing options and cold compresses are available for comfort. The injections will take less than 15 minutes.

The Recovery Process

For approximately four to six hours following your injections, Dr. Cangello will advise you to keep your head upright and to avoid strenuous exercise. You will also be advised not to rub the treated areas. You can use makeup immediately after the injections to cover up any signs of having had the procedure.

Depending on the severity of your wrinkles, you may require more than one treatment to achieve your desired results. Patients can typically expect:

  • Final results typically appear by two weeks.
  • Minor redness or swelling at the injection site, which usually resolves within 30 minutes to an hour, allowing you to return to most activities immediately.
  • The effects of Botox last 3–4 months; maintenance treatments are required.2

FAQs About Botox

Most Botox results last about three to four months. Regular maintenance sessions help prolong your youthful appearance.

Botox is used by a range of medical providers, including dermatologists, pain management specialists, plastic surgeons, and med spas. Beyond cosmetic rejuvenation, medical injectors use Botox to treat hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating), migraines, and a broad range of other medical conditions.3

Yes! Botox often pairs well with dermal fillers like Juvéderm® and Restylane®, chemical peels, or advanced skincare treatments to enhance your overall facial rejuvenation. Patients interested in combined cosmetic procedures can explore comprehensive treatment plans for more dramatic results. Be sure to check out our current specials.

While both Botox and Dysport are types of neurotoxin treatments, they have slight formulation differences. Dr. Cangello can help determine the best option for your treatment plan.

Botox pricing can vary based on the number of treatment areas, the amount of product needed, and your personalized aesthetic goals. Because every patient’s needs are different, we recommend scheduling a consultation at our New York City office. During your visit, Dr. Cangello will assess your facial anatomy and create a customized treatment plan, including a full explanation of expected pricing for your Botox injections.

It’s also important to consider the qualifications of your injector when evaluating cost. While a board-certified plastic or facial plastic surgeon may charge more than other providers, their extensive knowledge of facial anatomy and daily experience performing surgical and non-surgical facial procedures make them uniquely qualified to deliver precise, safe, and natural-looking results. Choosing a less experienced injector might reduce the upfront cost, but it can increase the risk of uneven outcomes or complications—making it well worth the investment.
